Dahomey 2024
We find ourselves in a void. Despite the considerable time that has passed since the colonial question was first posed, and with many African states now established as independent nations, one might ask: where is the cinema that reflects the current political reality?
Stylistically, this film is commendable. It poses intellectually stimulating questions and employs an experimental form and structure. I find this approach wonderful and believe it is a visual continuation of the post colonial literary tradition.

There Will Be Blood 2007
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Daniel Plainview prostrating over the burning oil rig. His newfound religion. As Eli Sunday watches from afar, a shift has occurred.
Religion supplanted by capital.
What follows after the displacement are mere growing pains. Transitory tensions, conflicts, and ultimately the destructive consequences that would come naturally with any shift of this magnitude.
Eli goes as far as to forsake God…losing his spirituality and the final coup de grâce.
My brother in marriage!
Prophet and profit what a cute set of homonyms in the English language.

Honey and Ashes 1996
Introduction by Nadia Fares.
So condense and yet so ambitious with its storytelling.
Nadia Fares interweaves three women’s lives with such a lucid manner at times. You can find yourself getting lulled.

PlayTime 1967
Playtime is an absurdist, whimsical, silly comedy that fails to hit the right notes for me. This is only exacerbated when you’re in a roaring theater and you’re quiet as a church mouse.
What is the most commendable is how adventurous and inventive it is.
One lady in our theater had the laugh of a fucking hyena.
