    The Moment of Truth

A weird mashup of spaghetti Western and boxing biopic. A bold visual style was clearly influential (Coppola, for one, MUST have watched this)- but the narrative is pretty much non-existent, and the bull fights were edited in a really choppy way that did not highlight the artistry of the bull fight in the way that Rosi intended.

While I was watching, I thought the bull fights were staged- the blood looked really fake- but that shows you what I know…

It was ridiculous and entertaining, but I probably would have found it funnier if I had actually seen a Douglas Sirk movie.

Interestingly, the BFI lists Douglas Sirk as an influence on Almódovar- and Polyester definitely had Pepi, Luci, Bom energy.

I was checking my watch at the 90-minute mark. The woman next to me was having the film experience of her life. I enjoyed her enjoying it.

Here's to watching movies in the theater- even when we know they're not our kind of movie.

Funnier afterwards. I kept giggling in my bathroom as I was brushing my teeth. “Mom, the doctors aren’t sure it’s a baby!”

It’s fifty years old but seems like it was made for the era of memes.
