    Coming of age done right.

Waited far too long before finally finding the time and the setting to watch The Perks of Being a Wallflower.  Although I’d seen a handful of the scenes, and knew the broad strokes, my expectations were still exceeded.

The intended nostalgia in TPOBAW is obviously peak, but some of the secondary, less intentional nostalgia, that you may relate to your own situation, is also cathartic.

Despite shortfalls in dialogue and minor plot holes, this classic lives up to its reputation of being a canon romance and age piece.

It’s always safer to wait until the 3rd or 4th date to mention your conspiracy theories.

Heretic was a mixed bag.  On one hand, we get intimate horror, a clever setting, and great acting.  But the other hand brings disappointingly common twists and ploys, as well as a confused narrative in the film’s third act.  The sheer grotesquery near the end was indispensable to Heretic’s effect, while being quite difficult to endure and feeling almost…tacked on?

I give a half star boost for Hugh Grant, the history lesson, and use of The Hollies “The Air That I Breathe” as perfect soundtrack dissonance.

“My pain is unexceptional, I don't feel like burdening everyone else with it.”

This one easily survived the airplane watch with a high rating. All around a pleasant experience.

I loved the intertwining of bittersweet, heartwarming, and nostalgic notes. Kieran Culkin and Jesse Eisenberg knock it out the park, much ado to Eisenberg’s direction.  All of the action is  beautifully decorated by its setting, color palate, and soundtrack as well.

A Real Pain illustrates its overarching human themes far better than most films can. I recommend it to anyone looking for a soulful watch.
