Watched again. Some random thoughts, this time I appreciated the efficiency of the storytelling. The lore and mythology is so dense but Villeneuve does a wonderful job keeping the audience oriented. You may not understand all of the intricacies but I always felt I understand the characters motivations, feelings, and relationships to each other. It’s also very clear that our sympathies are supposed to lie with Chani and we should, like her, be horrified at the actions Paul takes in the last 1/4 of the film. I’ve always thought this was a great film, this watch has me wondering…is it perfect? I can’t think of anything that doesn’t work or that I’d change.

Good One 2024
The type of film that, as a father, I watch with my face behind my hands like it's a horror movie. I really loved the quietude and patience as we get to spend a lot of time in the setting with the characters before a (somehow quiet) bombshell drops. It's been favorably compared to Kelly Reichardt and I can totally see the connection. My son is three years old now and it feels like I should probably revisit this every few years see if I need to course correct on my parenting. Ask your kid questions and for the love of God, actually listen to them!
