What an extraordinary piece of Japanese cinema!
A vibrant, colorful, crazy, wacky, and witty film - both in its storytelling and use of camera work, editing and directing - that brought me so much joy and laughter.
The tone is usually upbeat and lighthearted, but there's much more to it than just being ridiculously over-the-top funny.

Ichigo and Momoko are two truly unique characters with interesting quirks and personalities. They are complete opposites, brought to life by two equally fantastic…

    Shōgun

    ★★★★★

This is one of the finest pieces of television I've ever watched. Rarely have I seen something as thrilling, entertaining, and immersive as Shōgun.
Its writing is immaculate, whether it be the characters (some of whom are phenomenal, my favorite being Mariko) and their personalities, ambitions, and decisions, the dialogue, or the overall story.
Not many shows can match its brilliance.

It's very political, ruthless, unpredictable, and full of conflicts. The setting of Japan in the early 17th century perfectly…

    Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Easily one of the best video game film adaptations to date.
They have managed to improve with every new entry in this franchise and have now reached their peak with Sonic 3 (At least I doubt Sonic 4 could be even better).

Keanu Reeves as Shadow and Jim Carrey, perhaps delivering his best performance ever, as Dr. Eggman (twice) are fantastic, each in their own way.
Shadow's backstory is well told, with understandable motivations, and his action scenes are truly…

    THX 1138

    ★★★½

Even before Star Wars, George Lucas had an eye for science-fiction movies and a creative mind.
This is well reflected in THX 1138.

It's a rather unconventional story about a dystopian future where everything and everyone is under constant surveillance. Everything is sterile, and there is no individualism.
Our main character, played by Robert Duvall, wants to break free from that society.

I love the aesthetics of the retro-futuristic look.
Lucas was able to achieve the maximum with a minimal budget, which is impressive.

Definitely not for everyone, but I enjoyed it.

It's the small films like this that can show you so much joy and happiness in life and let you feel like you are not alone.

Chihiro is a lonely person who wants to reject all deeper connections with others, yet creates a deeply caring family around her with all kinds of personalities.
Every interaction between the characters is so real and fills you with delight and puts a big smile on your face or makes you drop a tear.

Call Me Chihiro feels like a big warm hug and says, everything's gonna be alright.

    Drawing Closer

    ★★★★½

Drawing Closer is a movie about dying, and yet it's so beautiful. Or maybe just because of that.
It cherishes life and friendship, shows hardship, happiness, love, and hope, and is full of raw emotions. All those emotions are conveyed through the screen to us, allowing us to experience them with the characters. They overwhelmed me, I burst out in tears, in laughter, or just had a big smile on my face.
    A bittersweet piece of art.

I think our coming together wasn't a coincidence. It was meant to be. I bet we were born only so that we could meet.
