Hardcore Henry 2015
More video game than film, down to the color-coded waves of enemies, timed missions with continually updating map markers, and immortal tutorializing NPCs: all that's missing is the occasional button prompt during a quicktime event. Never lingers on a moment for too long before introducing a fresh kind of mayhem, and has a good sense of humor about its ultra-violence.

Monkey Man 2024
Simplistic and bloody revenge that is drafting off of the John Wick franchise. The action sequences are exhaustingly lengthy; if you have ever felt movies should have less boring talking and more punching and shooting to international dance music, this may be the perfect film for you.

Tangerine 2015
The iPhone medium drops the views right beside the characters in a world as vivid and colorful as a Hollywood sunset, or perhaps that's just Sean Baker's incredible knack of casting infinitely watchable people to act in his films. Remarkably funny dialogue, energetic soundtrack, and a very poignant final scene that stands in contrast to all the chaos preceding it.

The Blair Witch Project 1999
The founder of an entire genre that has yet to be bested, bringing a level of reality that remains uncomfortable to bear witness to. The film knows intimately that the best horror is not in the grotesque monster but the darkness that conceals it, using the possibility in ambiguity to great effect.
