  This film had a lot working against it - I don't care for The Matrix, I don't like sports movies, the special effects look like a 2011 Smosh video, Cristina Ricci has that fuckass bob, etc.

  But it's a hard film not to love - the visuals are so creative and insane, the action is hypnotic, the story is surprisingly engaging. Never before has the protagonist of a film so aggressively the least interesting character in the ensemble.

  Vive la Goodman!

  Although it is a profoundly beautiful movie, what struck me the most was how unpoetic much of it was.

  The protagonist doesn't arrive at the hospital just in time to watch his brother go. The legs on the stretcher to the ambulance don't fold up easily. And that's what life is like.

  The two leads are not emotionally mature, and don't know what they need for themselves or eachother, but not everyone who's grieving has a motivational speech in them to make things better. It's a very unconventional angle to go for a movie, but it was a damn good one.
