Fairy tale isn’t my favorite gender, if you know what I mean. Also the sequences are not as incredible as in another of his movies.

The Legend of Suram Fortress 1985
A lot of frontal shots, a very similar movie to Achik-Keribi. His first film after prison. It’s hard to understand the rambling narrative and also some shallow characters. However, there is some beautiful images, like the seer getting old.

Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors 1965
A Paradjanov’s masterpiece. Here you can understand why people are describing his cinema as painting. Adapting stories by Mikhlaio Kotsiubinski and mixing them with Ukrainian mythologies, Paradjanov will represent a beautiful folkloric experience. Characters here are not predictable, there is a difference between them and the main western archetypes. Also the amazing cinematography, all the incredible shots within nature, specifically in taiga’s ecosystem . A lot of colours, beautiful camera movements and contre-plongées shots. Some editing decisions reminds me Potemkin from Eisenstein.
