The Mothman Prophecies 2002
Completely devoid of anything at all. Anything remotely interesting about Mothman folklore is discarded for cliche Hollywood formula, hitting movie beats without emotion. Richard Gere is just dreadful in this; he clearly had no interest. In fact, all of the actors seem to be giving it their worst - I wonder who that’s aimed at. It doesn’t seem like any aspect of this film is even trying to be interesting.

The Batman 2022
Daaaaarrrkkk, it's sssooo daaarrrkk and gritty and moooooody... and nothing else. Guttural, gruesome grit. All sizzle, no steak. An absolute bore full of recycled material that couldn't hide itself. The obsession with cinema verite realism is turning on itself and becoming unrealistic. The dim, desaturated palette is visually unappetizing. There seems to be no direction besides, 'move slow, stare long, be creepy,' and not in any meaningful way. Paul Dano's gas mask Riddler is an embarrassing attempt to recapture Heath Ledger's maniacal Joker. Matt Reeves is without a vision. It's time for Batman to take a new direction.

Gene Wilder plays Frederic FrankenSTEEN (don't say 'stein'), grandson of the famed mad scientist Victor Frankenstein. But it's not the canon we're worried about, it's the scenarios themselves modeled after various scenes from each of the three movies, with sometimes the only punchline being how well they recreated it just to make…
