  Some thoughts:

  So this movie adapts Act I only, and I guess they felt they needed to really stretch this out with extra padding. The result is a three hour movie which is like three quarters of the total runtime for the original Broadway show.

  Wow - they'll really just put Jeff Goldblum in front of a camera and let him do whatever he wants these days. No one thought to get a second take for ANY of his line…

  I feel like this adaptation plays the story a little too straight. Dickens is known for his humor, and I feel like this production is determined to ignore all of that and play the punchlines like they're in the most super serious drama of all time. Plus, George C. Scott is just not *getting it* with his Scrooge. You have no sense that any transformation is taking place in him at all until the ending when he sees his grave.…

  Showed this movie to my Adolescent Literature class because we had finished reading the book. The book is a sad, difficult read, the movie is... a little camp. I had to stifle a couple of laughs in class.
