Saw this at Stock Fish film festival in Iceland. Slapstick Native American characters is so ill advised! It's 2024 and there needs to be more nuance when it comes to portraying Natives in cinema, and apparently this bro/director didn't read the memo. Maybe he's just illiterate like the rest of his narrative? Also the fact that other wannabe critics on here are comparing it to a Guy Maddin film just goes to show the sorry state of modern American cinema.…

    Atomy

One of the all time GREAT disabled activist-films. Only in Iceland could an individual such as Brandur dream as big as he does and yet still command the same level of self-reflection that he exhibits in the film despite his hardships. In many ways the movie presents itself as the logical evolution of the new age movement via wellness tourism as it exists in 2023 (with all of its nuances and unrequited atoments). Highly recommended, and I am really interested to see what this director does next.

    ★★★★★

Animated entirely on the Nintendo 3DS, NOHOMO takes the seemingly banal routine of riding the metro and transforms it into a queer daydream that eventually erupts into a phallic kaleidoscope. Director Santos S.Santos whose editing credits includes such Emmy nominated shows as Netflix’s Chef’s Table, showcases his keen understanding of the cinematic language by enveloping the viewer in a formal, rhythmic low-fi landscape reminiscent of Luther Price’s Sodom, only this time it's rendered in 16-bit for the millennial age.
