  The 11th Annual On Cinema Oscar Special LIVE from AmatoCon 2024

  I really enjoyed the slick, men’s podcast, corporate seminar sheen of season 14, and that carries over into the utterly bland team-building-exercise energy of the Oscar special for the year. Mostly eventful, but a very slow buildup to the climax, where the mask finally drops. Was saying “Oh Gregg, nooo” several times during this. Highlights for me include the terrible big bird, the amount of Joe Estevez hate, and Joey P’s whiskey tasting.

  Felt pretty middle of the road on this. Edebiri and Malkovich are good, and it’s all relatively interesting, but it just doesn’t dig into its own premise as much as I’d like. The film seems to try to explain what’s going on, but does a poor job of it. Doesn’t really work as a horror or thriller, as all the thrills are packed into like 15 minutes of the film, but works alright as a weird mystery. Decently stylish filming,…

  Absolutely wild movie, from the music, to the acting, the way it’s staged and shot, costumed, and the completely bananas, phenomenal ending. Really enjoyed it. Michael Gambon is such a monster, just trashing everything in this whole movie. So many great little details- costumes changing from one room to another! The world outside the restaurant just being a hellscape filled with wild dogs. Never seen anything else like this.

  This is what happens when you try to pet wild animals! For better or worse, this movie is 100% vibes. It feels like someone tried to make a music video for a Shakespeare sonnet. It feels like the Pure Moods infomercial. Everything is glittery. Unicorns in slow-mo. Tom Cruise Donald Ducking it the whole movie. Not quite for me, but it’s very visually unique, and Tim Curry is an OUTSTANDING villain. More villains that just look like the straight-up devil plz. Bonus points for closing songs from the singer of YES and friggin’ Bryan Ferry- MY BOYS!
