If you love long, slow, meandering period epics then you’re in for a treat. I’m partial to all that, so thoroughly enjoyed this. One to absolutely revisit, but not for a couple of years.

Fever Pitch 1997
After watching this I found out that there was an American remake with Jimmy Kimmell playing a baseball fanatic… good lord.

Tombstone 1993
Stands head and shoulders over the Kevin Costner Wyatt Earp film that came out the same year. Probably helped by the fact it decides to focus primarily on the events leading up-to and after the Gunfight at the OK Corral - instead of covering every facet of a man’s life that was largely constructed in myth.
Val Kilmer owns it as Doc Holliday.

The Color of Money 1986
Marty’s blokiest film that doesn’t involve violence and murder? Decent sequel to The Hustler that can easily stand on its own merit. Nothing groundbreaking, but an entertaining watch nonetheless.
I love how the sound of a pool cue break gives Paul Newman the horn, so much so that he ditches a lady friend he’s chatting up to go and take a look who played it.
