The more I think about this film, the better it is. Exploring themes of masculinity, human capacity for evil, and the hypocrisy of war, every line and shot could be dissected and analysed. I’m not sure if that’s Kubrick’s intention, but with a storyline quite linear and simplistic, without much movement, I hung on every word looking for subtext.
Kubrick’s alignment of war and sex highlights the western-male mindset which strives for domination over other men and women. Kubrick’s musings…
