  Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette are great here. The script works when it sticks to these two actors' characters. The problems show up with the very thin secondary characters, which prevents this from being great.

  An excellent addition to Egger's catalog. The first half of the film would've been five stars. Once Thomas returns to the main town, the writing gets away from itself a little bit. Rather than getting these long, gorgeous scenes with excellent cinematography and compelling character and world building from the first half, we end up jumping around and the scenes can feel kind of rushed. Not my favorite Eggers movie (The VVitch), but definitely deserved the hype.
