  Moonraker 1979

  Howard Hawks liked his film Rio Bravo so much that he remade twice with El Dorado and Rio Lobo.  

  Bond director Lewis Gilbert did roughly the same thing with You Only Live Twice (1967), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Moonraker (1979). However, unlike Hawks, the remakes became far better and more polished than the original. Think of Terminator 2: Judgment Day compared to the first one.

  Licence to Kill 1989

  ★★★★★ Rewatched 27 Mar 2018

  All five of the 80’s Bond films were directed by John Glen and this last one turned out to be his finest. 

  Due to the squeamish level of violence and bloodshed (for a Bond movie) I have actually not seen License to Kill as frequently as the others. Even though it’s missing the fun-factor of the more outlandish 007 entries like Octopussy, I still have to admire LTK for its brutal approach.
