Without a doubt a bleak turn for the final film in the Proletariat Trilogy from Aki Kaurismäki. There is very black humour in here but it's buried deep. Iris has an unfulfilling, uneventful life working in a factory, living with her mother and uncaring step-father. Events lead her to having to act in a way only the terminally-disappointed can fully manage. Virtually no dialogue, the machine-like drudgery at the fore making the drama feel so much more powerful. The trademark acceptance of shit happening is in there, but has a whole different context, like the previous films were preparing the viewer for it.

A film that definitely wouldn't have existed without John Wick, almost felt like a palette swap. The first part was basically a sexed-up version of Jim Browning's Youtube channel (check it out, it's great), but things get more preposterous, thankfully, Jason Statham, not having to move out of his comfort zone for a second, playing it just serious enough. With these sorts of things it's too easy to flip over to comedy but whilst this has some funny moments it keeps on the right side of daft.

PM Entertainment hit backwith this full-on, if rather predictable, action flick. Gary Daniels is the wrong cop in question, and it really isn't a spoiler to say he loses it all so he can come back fighting. Yes, it's that predictable, no prizes for originality or a twisty plot, but PM does what it does best, solid action with high production values. It certainly felt like the sort of story where they were more concerned with maximising the "oh shit!"…

Documentary about the group of Dorset bus drivers who put on an am-dram adaptation of Alien complete with low-budget effects and sets, and the subsequent premiere in London's West End. I had a huge smile on my face all the way through this, it was a joy to watch the ups and downs as cast and crew prepared for their big night. The actual show at the end was very well covered with all the major moments. In fact I felt they captured the thrill and excitement, was caught up in it, willing them all on. Superb doc.
