Inevitably doesn’t wow me the way it did when I was a kid but it will always remain as one of the most remarkably ambitious efforts within mainstream filmmaking ever. I do however feel an existential dread watching that scene with the basement of old dudes hooked up to the dream devices now as VR and brain chips draw closer to our reality, that the real-life Fischers will carve up all of our reachable physical reality and leave us to rent mere memories of the world. Though maybe movies already do that

American Sniper 2014
Truly insane nationalist propaganda that is also frustrating in that, if you strip this away from all context of the war and Kyle being a genuinely deranged individual, the narrative of this guy who has continually leave his family to go on tours because he’s so fucking good at shooting guys is a really compelling premise. Eastwood does a genuinely excellent job building the tension each time he goes back in and it is genuinely a little heartbreaking seeing him…
