    Hitler Youth Quex

Watched this film as a part of a course focused on the role of film in the Nazi propaganda machine. For that purpose, Hitler Youth Quex allowed a greater understanding of how entertainment/art can influence and radicalize masses.

However, I can't ever imagine anyone ever turning on the TV to watch this with a bowl of popcorn on hand.

Kuhle Wampe or Who Owns the World?

    ★★½

Part documentary, part character study, part political commentary, Kuhle Wampe was informative of the socioeconomic conditions of early 1930s Germany and Brecht's left-wing politics. The film makes for an interesting dissection of society but a makes for a limited cohesive viewing experience.

Black and white film from the 1930s pioneering the use of sound. Any scenes and acts of violence are conveyed through clever framing and told between the lines. It is inspiring to see Lang's use of juxtaposition and foreshadowing in this murder mystery social commentary.
