This was made by the man that made that one film ‘The Image Book’. Watching that was enough to put me off Jean Luc for good. But I’m glad I watched this one - I haven’t watched a movie from this time period that’s been as funny as this. 3 ultra hyper and ultra stupid main characters that are so fun to watch. The film feels like it’s moving at 100mph the whole way through which made it even more entertaining for me (even though I missed half the subtitles as a result)
Luv this one!
Battered semi retired cop becomes obsessed with taking down a murderous sociopath while putting everyone around him at major risks as he seeks to undo the wrongs of his jaded past. I’ve seen it all before, but I still luv it. Two British blokes take on the role of two American protagonists v professionally - luv it. The action set pieces r so good - ‘Heat’ and ‘Point Break’ esque heist scenes that had be gripped throughout.
Very entertaining and pertinent movie
This was a haunting watch, that had me hooked. Tryna figure out the mysterious intentions of the main character throughout was very difficult, and I still don't fully understand having finished the film. Was she a vigilante or a psychotic parasocial? Juliette Gariépy plays this role so well - she keeps the exact same glum facial expression throughout the whole film, which made it it even harder to gauge the intentions of her character. She definitely could have played girl with dragon tattoo if Rooney Mara had never existed.
A very still and thoughtful film - you gotta have patience with it at the start, but is well worth sicking with it. There's a lot of couped up sadness and grief which is very subtly implied to us throughout this film. The foreboding score helps with this, by randomly cutting in and out as the camera focusses on the landscape. Speaking of the landscape, there aren't many films i've watched recently that are shot as beautifully as this one…
