This film is fine, it’s not as bad as people are making it out to be, but it’s still not great. Harrison Ford was great and I’ve really warmed up to Anthony Mackie as Captain America, even though I hated falcon and the winter soldier. My biggest critique is that the film is just too simple. I really enjoyed this, sure maybe it was a stupid, self-tormenting idea to watch it on Valentine’s Day, but here we are! I loved the complexity of the characters and situations and how it showed the seeds of ‘miscommunication’, really cleverly time-jumping and then highlighting the progression of delusion. I might succumb to giving it 5 stars eventually. This is a film I can easily see myself rewatching multiple times. It was shot beautifully, had a great score and the performances from Bill Skarsgard and Lily-Rose Depp (especially any of the possession scenes) were outstanding. Anytime Willem Dafoe was on screen, it felt like the film found a higher gear to go into, and Nicholas Hoult did a really good job throughout. I’m also a sucker for the costume…
