As the final Best Picture nominee I got the chance to see prior to the Oscars tomorrow night, I would say this ended my cinema year on a high note, if a thoroughly depressing one. Unabashedly sentimental yet beautiful. I don't think it transcends the mold of the historical-political drama, but it can stand side-by-side with the best of them.
