Once this film picks up (pretty much the entire second half) and fully commits to being a kick-ass action movie, it nails it.

The second act sucks. There is a complete disconnect from the 1st to 3rd acts and yeah, it simply cannot be ignored. Chaney is great throughout but unfortunately the narrative cannot match this vigor. Better than average considering the release year of 1920 but can't recommend this too highly.

About as average as it gets, despite tremendous work from Linney and Hoffman leading the way. The sort of film you can pretty much guess each step along the way and in that way, it finds a way to annoy me. Give me dark and emotional or give me light-hearted with humor. Mixing tones, while a few manage to successfully do this, is hard to accomplish. The film tries to have it's funny moments...but they never really come across as being...funny.
