this has been on my radar for a long time, but haven’t managed to get around to watching it until recently. kristin stewart stars as maureen, a brooding 20 something working as a personal shopper to a supermodel in paris. maureen's real purpose there, however, is that she's waiting for a signal “from beyond” from her enigmatic twin brother, who recently passed away in france, and like her, had a wee bit of the ESP. maureen spends her days flitting about the various high-end shops and boutiques…
noirish thriller set in tokyo and paris. a corporate espionage plot line grafted uncomfortably onto videodrome. has all the hallmarks of a cool guy movie - a little transgressive nod to BDSM torture porn, chloe sevigny, music by sonic youth- but a bit of a train wreck overall. looks great if you like Y2K aesthetic, but kind of plodding and incomprehensible at times. feels like assayas wanted to make a little nod to the new french extremity without going all the way there. a miss for me overall.

The Brutalist, a 3.5 hour tour-de-force directed by Brady Corbet, has already established itself as something of a modern classic. This is perhaps not surprising, given that relatively few filmmakers attempt to grapple with such big ideas on so massive a scale, without any attempt at diluting its contents for the sake of the moviegoer.
