Delightfully quirky. This style of vibes-heavy and whimsical slice-of-life storytelling that is optimistic at its core, but still touches on the sadnesses of life is basically my ideal. Can’t believe it took me so long to finally see this. I can see its fingerprints on other things I loved a lot, now, too - especially Pushing Daisies. Will definitely rewatch.

I did not like this. Nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said. But Zoe Saldana and the vocals on the final scene are truly the only things about this that are positive and hence getting the 1.5 stars.

The Night of the Hunter 1955
Stunning use of black and white contrast, light, composition and scene setting. I loved so many shots of the kids especially in the boat on the river and climbing into the barn loft. But really just much of the cinematography was gorgeous. It added quite successfully to the dread and suspense I felt on behalf of the kids and the terror of the evil pursuing them.
All said, This movie isn’t what I expected. Parts of it worked so well…
