Heat 1995
Coked out Al Pacino running after a goatie-d De Niro makes for great cinema. The heist scenes are perfect and Mann’s ability to create tension from the smallest thing is incredible.
With that being said I personally felt that some of the melodramatic “romance” angles served as hollow story beats with partners being used as pawns rather than well thought out well… romances!
Still had a great time but just can’t shake the feeling that cutting one of the million fatty cushy home scenes out could’ve left this one leaner and meaner. But maybe that’s just me

Love Lies Bleeding 2024
A horrid, lurid, dirty, sexual nightmare. Fantastic performances all around, great camera work, great soundtrack. I just wish it maintained its gritty thriller edge throughout the whole film, it lost me. Also, I can’t lie that I wanted a bit of a scarface end for our protagonists. But maybe I’m just a freak.
