Impressive in its scale and its sets, but full of subplots that were hackneyed even for 1963. Ava Gardner could be cut entirely and the only important detail that would change is that Ava Gardner would no longer be in it.
I wouldn't mind this so much except that it barely takes any time at all to establish what we're even dealing with. All the movie really says are that there are some Chinese people called Boxers and they don't like the Legation Quarter very much (Possibly due to the melodrama held within).
The editing's quite choppy too.
It was basically fine
Like The Hangover but worse. I still liked it; I can't believe Andrew chose to watch Anora over this
Drive stars me as the nameless getaway driver discovering that I am a sigma male by committing violent crime and acting as a distant, quite weird guardian of my neighbours.
Setting that aside, it's just well made. It's exactly as long as it needs to be without a wasted scene, and it's a delight to watch.
On paper I like it. On actual viewing though it feels a bit flat. I think that's because it wants to play with the genre it's in but doesn't know how.
