  Arnold is one of my favorite actors, not ironically. Every single thing about his performance and presence on screen is bizarre and he’s genuinely a pretty uncanny weirdo to watch in any role. Robert Howard’s source material is beautiful. Everything about this movie rules.

  The Phantom Carriage 1921

  The ultimate new years movie. I watched this one for the first time on New Years Day 2021, after reading Claude Lecouteux’s mention of it in PHANTOM ARMIES OF THE NIGHT as a modern example of European traditions of midwinter caravans of nocturnal aerial sprits (kind of like the ones in New Jersey right now).

  It’s a beautiful, very scary little fairytale, a dark Scandinavian ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE where the grim reaper shows you exactly how much better off everyone would have been without you. The KTL score for it is worth a rewatch.

  Nothing paranormal. Car accidents are common subjects of precognitive dreams, missed opportunity to make it a movie about precognition, too.
