    This is one of those contenders for the title of best direct-to-video animated DC film I mentioned in my recent Wonder Woman (2009) review. This movie SLAPS, as the kids would say. (Not my kids.) Incredible action and fight sequences, really good character stuff, the animation is excellent, there's some funny moments, it's just awesome. The only thing I don't 100% love is the Joker's voice and design. Both are ok, just not my favorite. Essential Batman viewing.

    It's not that any part of this is bad, it's just that no part of it is anywhere near as good as the original. The exception to that being the animation itself. It's still a beautiful movie, but nothing that's added to the mix really adds anything of value.     The first words spoken in this, the greatest of all superhero movies, after not one but two of John Williams' greatest musical compositions, establish the seriousness with which this film is going to handle its arguably very unserious subject matter. Mostly.

    Christopher Reeve as Superman in this is my favorite performance by an actor in any movie. Just so good.
