As soon as the film started I was mad at myself for having slept on this for so long. To be fair, I don't have Netflix, but still, Scorsese is my favorite filmmaker and I have denied myself this masterpiece for too long. This is instantly gripping similar to Goodfellas, but unlike that 1990 film (Scorsese's best) this is no romantic view of the gangster life. This is one of those contenders for the title of best direct-to-video animated DC film I mentioned in my recent Wonder Woman (2009) review. This movie SLAPS, as the kids would say. (Not my kids.) Incredible action and fight sequences, really good character stuff, the animation is excellent, there's some funny moments, it's just awesome. The only thing I don't 100% love is the Joker's voice and design. Both are ok, just not my favorite. Essential Batman viewing.

Christopher Reeve as Superman in this is my favorite performance by an actor in any movie. Just so good.

The Rogue One-ification of Alien. (Compliment!)

I was really excited for this, and it still managed to exceed nearly every expectation I had. It wasn't quite as scary as I thought it might be, but I'm not complaining about that. Alvarez really impressed me and the film feels connected to the rest of the franchise in surprising ways. It does borrow basically anything and everything that was cool about all the other films (yes, even Resurrection) but much like 2022's…
