    Cloud Atlas

    ★★★½

This is why I hate rating systems. I certainly stand by my score (7), but I don't think there is a "blockbuster" in recent years that is more deserving to watch.

While it is easy to think of it as a set of six cut-up stories, it is after all one film. And each story, despite it intertwining with others tell it's own story really well. One being used as very clever juxtaposition.

The only bad points from the film…

    The Cat Returns

    ★★★

    Watched in Japanese dub.

If a little short and shallow, The Cat's Repayment is another endearing adventure animé.

Maybe given that Studio Ghibli solely deals in stories like this doesn't at all mean they have no imagination, they do them well. The humor, action, violence and characters kept me entertained through the short journey.

    House of Flying Daggers

    ★★★

    Watched with English subtitles.

To put simply: A visually and auditory treat that's both subtle and very unsubtle at the same time.

Worth watching for the fighting and scenery porn, but certainly not for story.

    Life of Pi

    ★★★★½

    Watched in 2D

If it's one thing I absolutely despise about Life of Pi it is the ridiculous amount of advertising. Hell, the start of the film introduced with "After you have watched this film, share the phenomenon on Facebook and Twitter". Which immediately makes me think that this is going to be shit.

Instead what I watched is an astounding emotionally driven tale told in such a way that not one part of the movie could be considered "boring".…
