Ride Along attempts to bring laughs through the classic buddy cop formula, but it often feels more like a 2014 YouTube vlog of wannabe tough guys rather than a fully realized movie. The humor is hit-or-miss, with some decent jokes sprinkled throughout, but much of it leans on predictable gags and forced comedy.
If you decide to give it a shot, expect a straightforward, logic-defying plot that relies heavily on Kevin Hart’s signature style, something that, personally, has never been my cup of tea. However, if you enjoy lighthearted action comedies and don’t mind a bit of over-the-top humor, you might still find it entertaining.
Kadijević strived to create a minimalist story by cutting out redundant dialogues, leaving them bare, which puts the audience in a state of anticipation, without resolving the storyline, even by the end. He follows the maxim “the less explanation, the better”, using the tactic that we must unravel the meaning ourselves, as aesthetics take priority. His play with illusory reality makes him unique, but his vagueness may cause some people to watch this as both their first and last movie…
