If I were still in academia, I would suggest watching it to my peers in the seminar of visual anthropology: the film uses different visual languages/styles to find the ways to talk about Valerie's trauma. (Black&white segment has Valerie with a gorgeous hairstyle and smart refernces, but its colour counterpart is more terrifying in its mundanity.)

My brain hurts to comprehend Petrov's style: it combines features of different visual languages (landscapes, cinema, animation); this feels like watching pictures (hanging in museums) move (they are not supposed to do that, so it's disturbing and fascinating).
Fluidity of images drawn by Petrov('s fingers) hightlights the interconnections of humanity, nature, cosmos; the beauty of this world. Santiago killed his "brother" (a giant marlin), but then the sharks "killed" him. I hope we won't kill the stars.
