  i have not watched the original so i fear what i can say about this movie is limited, but it was wonderful to watch and i had a really fun time with it. remakes of fables about (women's) chastity and sexuality can very easily give in to their original's dated natures, but eggers' direction gives ellen and the rest of the cast a complex and compelling new sheen of paint that's both frightening and awe-inspiring.

  watched because we're doing hamlet in book club right now, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. redefining, raw (both good and bad), but ultimately so full of heart that it's wonderful nonetheless
