Unfunny/scary alibaba giallo. It might have been a fun hamfisted look at the obsessional aestheticisation of paedophilia via Polanski and the Tavi gevinson/Petra Collins “I’m baby” knee socks and cotton panties reboot… but that’s literally just Dasha’s actual style. She just hasn’t updated her wardrobe since Rookie mag’s 2010 heyday and made a kinda basic homage to the problematic greats. Typical millennial nostalgia really.

Anna as Ghislaine doppel and Ruby McCollister’s cameo at the end were the only funny bits.

This film is literary in the sense that it references 70s experimental cut-up praxis and the Theatre of the Absurd. It is film-making (or writing) experiencing an identity crisis, particularly in the sense that each ‘character,’ is comprised of many disembodied voices narrating in (un)familiar euro accents. It reflects an underlying interest in the self-revealing speaking subject in relationship to the authoritative or authorial ‘outside’ voice of an interviewer/director/writer and maps a complex (and comedic) transference of these theoretical frameworks…
