I have a lot of conflicting feelings on this film , in part because it’s hard to not feel morally displaced by some of the plot. This film was a good reminder that some of the best cinema comes from sitting in ambiguity and just letting things unfold without expectation. The dinner scene and Dumbo shots were visually stunning. I’ll be thinking about this one for a while.

Everything Everywhere All at Once 2022
I really wanted this to be a five star film for me but I think that some of the attempts at humor overshadowed the actual intentions of the scenes (hot dog hands and just Jamie Lee Curtis’ general presence). Although I did really love some of the absurdity, some of it just felt a bit distracting. I enjoyed the layering of all the verses, but the Wong Kar Wai one was a real favorite. Of course I cried at the end and called my family immediately after
Also the Harry Shum Jr casting for the racacoonie bit was 😙👌

News from Home 1976
the mixing of sounds, especially the screeching subway with the mother’s letters, was particularly moving. really interesting to watch as someone living in New York away from my family. The last shot 💔 so beautiful- both relieves the tension that I didn’t realize I held, but also feels quite sad, like surrendering something so personal.

Coming Home 1978
Constantly haunted by this film and the way Fonda and Ashby come together to make a single gaze feel so heavy. Framing is immaculate, the emotion is intense, and Jane Fonda is hot- so gorgeous of course.
