Where the 1956 Ransom! was a noir melodrama, Ron Howard's version of the story is more of a straightforward thriller. This is a choice that broadly works in the piece's favor. The action beats are pretty tight, particularly in the final act.
Gibson and Russo are both good, though the latter is not given enough to do and gets over a choice way too quickly (though the 56 version also has this issue and then some). Sinise though steals this for me. Superb intensity sells me on that character.

A solid kidnapping drama. Glenn Ford is fine, as are Donna Reed and Robert Keith, but attention is stolen by Leslie Nielsen and Juan Hernández in supporting roles.

This was super cute with a great use of the enemies to lovers trope.

Truly impressive in its ambition and how much of that is realized. That spectacle offsets a few flat performances.
