A truly excellent film.
Denzel literally steals every scene and he just oozes talent the absolute badman.
The shower/bath scene in the final quarter with Ethan Hawkes character is done so well. The use of camera angles and perspective just keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Reyt good movie this. So many cool cameos throughout and an unbelievable performance by Denzel Washington. The fact he improvised a lot of scenes throughout this film makes it even cooler, he’s untouchable man.
A really solid directorial debut from Idris Elba and a beautiful story told in a pretty beautiful way.
Was it somewhat ‘simple’ and ‘predictable’? Maybe. But it was a good film with good acting set against a beautiful backdrop.
The film is worth at least 4 stars just for Stephen Graham attempting a Jamaican accent throughout.
The first portion of the film set in Jamaica was visually stunning imo and the soundtrack throughout was sublime.

70mm IMAX opening night screening.
It’s feels pertinent to start this ‘review’ with the fact I was fortunate enough to watch this film on its opening night in a sold out IMAX theatre on 70mm film, just as the director intended.
