Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 2014
Had actual stakes and was genuinely just a fun movie despite being horribly sad overall. The stories didn't rely on people making stupid errors, the miscommunications made sense and the characters had compelling motivation enough that I was engaged with the story when I only really expected cool ape fights. Also, my boy Maurice is still kicking so I'm happy! Exceeded expectations

Tetsuo: The Iron Man 1989
Honestly, this was just kind of an awesome experience that is equally enjoyable for the art that it is as well as out of appreciation for the efforts put into making said art. I sat with my jaw dropped for most of the film from how neat the visual effects were even when they were beyond recognizable imagery. Incredible, fun to watch, and I am already itching to share it with others that would appreciate this film!

The reviews from critics were very low and I honestly don't get it because this was such a good movie! The acting was marvelous, this movie was gorgeous, the sound design set how eerie and lonely this movie felt, and the story was beautifully done and went in a direction I didn't expect but appreciated!
