  This wonderful, sparkling romantic comedy has a thread of melancholy running through it, largely personified by Lew Ayres’ always-drunk Ned. He’s simultaneously the funniest and most tragic character.

  Murray is just coasting here, shouting and unpleasant, and his climatic transformation feels sweaty and unearned. The movie’s only redeeming qualities are the touches of horror that make it feel like something much darker than a strident media satire with no teeth.

  This is a dreamy, weirdo Czech vampire movie slash coming-of-age story with only the loosest of plots. I enjoyed it on that level, but if you watch this and are thinking "wow, that actress looks way too young to be topless," then you would be 100% correct.
