  I'd actually forgotten how bad the first one was, and didn't know this sequel existed. I was shocked it was worse than the first one. It's the first time I've ever seen Tommy Lee Jones unexpectedly pop up in a movie, where it depressed me.

  The Substance 2024

  Without reading any reviews or interviews I can tell that the director was going for a Severance + Aronofsky + The Fly.  However, it’s hard to call this movie experimental or unique when it literally looks like Aronofsky directed it.  

  
  Despite the HUGE plot hole (why would anyone drink of the fountain of youth for it to benefit someone else?) it was decent until the last 20 min.  No one bothered to put a proper ending on it.

  As far as the idea goes, it was very reminiscent of Time Crimes AND Primer, which are two really great indie time travel films. But the story of this one... the story was beautifully and masterfully written. I had a huge smile on my face at the end.

  I'm on a journey to watch as many time travel movies as I can. So many of them are bad that I thought this would be bad, but it was actually a really good one.
