Look, I really liked BLOW also

    The Monkey

    ★★★½

Disjointed and bearing some wonky effects choices, The Monkey kept my attention and let me have a quite a bit of fun at the expense of the plethora of fun deaths (Osgood's death might have been the hardest I laughed / retched at a death in recent memory). Might be more fun upon rewatch but tonally, a mess.

Some really fun choices made here, most of them are singular to Eggers, the way he immerses you in such a rich and fully-realized world to the point that it almost feels documentary: The framing of shots often cutting someone off objectively or using precision blocking to highlight set design.

Bill is, in the truest sense of the word, unrecognizable. I love all the shit they were doing with Orlock. Keeping him so tactfully obscured for the majority of his early screen time works so well, again thanks to the incredible production design that he's able to fade into.

Primo Religious Horror. Hugh Grant eats this up as the edgelord atheist kid at your lunch table you couldn't spend more than 2 min around.
