The GOAT, MVP, ect.. Has everything I could ever want in a story and is the single most influential movie I have ever seen or will ever see. Juicy character development, an incredibly immersive world (the set design is immaculate and more unique than it is given credit for- most fantasy franchises do not look this unique or detailed), on point cinematography, rousing and iconic set pieces, the best musical score of all time, and plenty of early 2000s memes.…

Thematically incoherent and empty, badly written, badly acted, and tonally dissonant, this movie is an exercise in nihilistic weirdness for the mere sake of it. The only thing it has going for it is some occasionally dazzling imagery. Not even Nicolas Cage's typically over-the-top acting is fun to watch as it is in a movie like Mandy, where his desire to embrace a more German expressionist style of acting fits in with the tone and style of the movie. Here it feels out of place and, worse, boring.

One of the landmark zombie films that both established many of the tropes that would be duplicated for decades and is good in its own right. Moral dilemmas galore, nitty-gritty survival logistics, varied depictions of trauma responses, and even some chilling social commentary. Some gorgeous photography and a surprisingly nihilistic vibe to the whole thing. Incredibly enjoyable.
