"It's easy to know what you are against, but quite another to know what you are for."

Shamefully this is the first Ken Loach film I have seen. Gladly, it embodied everything I have heard about his film and story style very well. The brutalities of colonialism from the imperial core can often feel distant from the perspective of many years and many miles away. This film however brings them directly home, showing in pure individual terms the monstrosity of…

"I have adventured it and found nothing but sugar and violence."

This is definitely the most inventive form of Coming of Age film I have had the pleasure to watch. Purely in a visual sense, I absolutely loved it and wish more directors embraced the fantastical in their scenery. I feel it elevated the story and made the film as a whole far more captivating. Lovely film. I'm only just starting to get into Wes Anderson, but my favourite features of his is the ability to thread comedy & sincerity together without huge jumps between, as well as being able to totally immerse you in the time he's portraying.

I was not expecting to love this film as much as I did! It is just wonderful. The dialogue is some of the most excellent I've seen in a film, it really captures the essence of siblings and particularly sisterhood. The intense mix of jealousy, anger, humour but especially love. The setting is completely brought to life, and the strife of womanhood at the time is so brutally but gracefully depicted. Big fan! 9/10.
