It's an okay movie. I think the script glosses over the actual interesting dynamics and questions. But Amy Adams performs her heart out: she's why I'm giving this ☆☆☆. Without Amy this is barely a ☆☆ movie.
Also, I would advise checking www.doesthedogdie.com just in case something may be triggering. I wish I did.
'Twas painful, but I endured. I could have just watched the first 3 minutes and the last 20 minutes, and walked away feeling less angry at a movie that's so utterly dull it actually tests one's will power to not punch the screen continuously. If they were to cut all the useless singing (which is all, as none of it takes the "plot" any further), it may be a tiny (as in a miniscule) bit better, but only by way of being shorter.
Not the worst Christmas movie I've ever seen. (That prize may go to 'The Merry Gentlemen'!). If you watch Red One with a childlike sense of Christmas wonder, it's a fun watch. Not perfect, not award-winning stuff, but I've seen far worse in the Christmas genre category, so it seems unfair to go hating on this one with full force. Fun, if you allow yourself to go along for the sleigh ride without overly high expectations.
