Ad Astra is an awe inspiring film. The plot is nerdy and wonderfully complicated even though the story is simple. The first half has such big promise. The second half gets a bit too slow and self important for my taste but overall it delivers on the themes and setups in a proper way. Having a film about space explore the theme of parents or lovers running away from everything is quite interesting, even though I'd love to watch a less philosophical film about moon pirates as well. I don't love the voiceovers but other than that I loved most of the creative decisions.

The stop motion is semi-cool but everything else in this adaption absolutely murders the source material. Everything is so uptempo and I get exhausted. The songs are horrible and stressful versions of the cozy nice originals.
My 3yo son likes it but he doesn't know what he's missing.

All that is filled to the brim with excellent dialogue and iconic scenes with camerawork that makes sure you always have the full…
