I understand that the film was inspired by the Leopold and Loeb case, but I wish Hitchcock would have explored the philosophical justification for the murder more deeply (perhaps by having the victim be socially inferior, rather than a wealthy Harvard graduate) and developed Rupert's growing shame and changing of heart throughout rather than simply leaving the audience questioning his allegiance until the denouement for the sake of building suspense.
