This is a great superhero movie. The awesome part about this one is that it’s somehow the weakest in the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy. Adam West is still my favorite Batman, but Christian Bale is my favorite serious take on the character. I think what makes this the weakest in the trilogy is the villain. Liam Neeson as Ra’s al Ghul works well for an antagonist, but I felt like Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow was more memorable. That’s not to…
I was drunk with friends watching this. I’m not sure if the movie is supposed to feel like a fever dream or if that was the alcohol. It didn’t feel Ghost in the Shell level fever dream, but certainly in the same ballpark. Either way, great movie. Very high quality animation, especially for the 80s. I can see how it inspired a lot of works that came after it.
Great action scenes and a slightly more grounded plot than the sequels. I love that there isn’t a ton of shaky cam action full of jump cuts. Fight choreography is fun to watch, and the movie has a good sense of pacing. Just the right amount of downtime between all the action. Keanu Reeves and Lance Reddick are both standouts for me. I do roll my eyes a bit at the idea of 50 some year old Keanu effortlessly taking down 90% of these guys, but it’s still really fun to watch.
