  Aesthetically captivating but condescending, hypocritical and empty (I guess that's partly the pont?) The dialogue in this movie is utter babble. Eventually it became so irritating that the visual style couldn't make up for it. Could have definitely been shorter too as I think its length makes everything bad about the movie even worse. Regardless, I wish more things looked like this and credit has to be given to how unlike anything else this movie is.

  First two acts were great (mostly because of the atmosphere and the subtlety), sadly let down by the final third, the handling of the supernatural elements and the 'twist'. The compulsion for modern day horror films to have to ultimately spell out what is happening rather than just implying is really a big pitfall that every director seems to face. This would have been so much better if the lore of the film wasn't given in totality using an exposition…

  I didn’t really know what to expect going into this but definitely wasn’t prepared for anything so uncomfortable, infuriating or important.

  I can only respectfully disagree to anyone giving this low scores due to gender politics. Of course the scenes of violence are brutal and pull no punches but this is never in a gratuitous way or to elicit enjoyment from the viewer, in fact much the opposite - no-one is or should be amused by the violence aimed against…
