Steven Soderbergh might have made the fanciest production of mafia/among us where all the players (villagers, guardian angels and mafia) are all spies.

Blackbag should have been a play in Broadway. A stellar star cast and 2 to 3 sets. You kinda get everything you need to tell this spy story. In typical Soderbergh fashion there is richness in the writing and economy in production and an excess of dialogue. More tell than show but it works. Only just. While…

    Mickey 17

    ★★★

A weird mix of sci-fi, dark comedy and a fascist imperialism. The basic premise is good enough but I think it loses its gravity with a weak narrator, who was perhaps chosen for comic effect but failed to pull it off. For once I think bathos would have been a strong tool to turbocharge the comedy. It never gets too serious or too funny and loses its plot in moody confusion of a punk. The comedy doesnt come off timed…

    Goodachari

The thing with Telugu movies is that I have to always divide the glowing ratings by 2 and also expect the movie to fizzle out by the end. They seldom have good, worthy climaxes. Always going for the pizzazz over quality and almost always falling short. Subtlety and restraint are ideas worth considering.

Considering all that Goodachari is not a bad movie. Ignore that it's first half has been lifted more or less as is from Kingsman:The Secret Service. Also…

David Lowery is quite something else. Every movie of his leaves me wanting more. The Green Knight, like all his other work, is a richly layered film done with so much ease and mastery.

This tale of a young lord trying to find his way, write his destiny, build his legend has so many beautiful complications, it is a delight to watch especially when such gorgeously framed as it is here. Stellar writing, amazing performances esp by Patel and Vikander. Every small bit adds weight.
